Standing The Test of Time Part One

Now as the Holiday Season has been upon us, in between all the festivities I took time to look into some great jewelry pieces that undoubtedly have and will stand the test of time. In the United States its all about Diamonds Diamonds Diamonds but there are great pieces that feature semi precious gemstones from the Art Deco and Victorian periods that are not only spectacular but most are rare enough that they are pretty much one of a kind, which you cannot just pick up in your local jewelry store. I have been to the mines in Africa to see the actual diamonds and gems mined so exploring the end result of these gemstones being cut and set in various pieces is of particular interest to me, so I'm going to share my thoughts and some pics of pieces that deserve the the attention. Granted some may be extremely high end while others would be reasonably priced but I'm blogging about this not for pricing but for their uniqueness and beauty.

The Cartier Trinity Ring

Cartier Scarab Brooch from 1924, featuring old-cut round diamonds on the wings along with some type of blue ceramic ala Ancient Egypt , emerald cabachons for the eyes, and some type of black enamel for the actual body. Its an interesting piece that will stand the test of time.

Sticking to the Cartier collection, this Cartier Brooch is definitely in the unique realm, take a look at the Kashmir sapphire cabochon which the panther is guarding, the detail is just amazing, from the yellow diamonds to the sapphires representing the spots and the various diamonds around the body. All the way to the expression on the panthers face the workmanship is something that modern day jewelry makers should take notes on. This piece if from 1949.

Now this is of course a series of blog posts that I will share my thoughts and fun facts about the piece I am featuring. Honestly I never thought that I would blogging about this arena but after coming in contact with some very unique and in some cases one of a kind pieces featuring various stones from Garnet, Sapphire, Ruby, Blue Topaz. Black Opal all the way to Amethyst and Peridot I felt compelled to share my thoughts.

In between my other rants about finance, business and entertainment, I will share some new talented craftsmen who are creating some great jewelry pieces but not too many people know about them yet but thats sure to change down the road.

Alright until my next rant have an awesome day!!
